The VR DigiVET project has completed its needs assessment, a key milestone for identifying digital skills gaps and training priorities in the Albanian vocational education and training system.
The assessment combined desk research, field data collection, questionnaires and stakeholder engagement. It focused on both VET staff and students, with the objective of understanding current digital competences, training needs, barriers to digital learning and attitudes towards the use of immersive technologies.
The findings highlighted a significant demand for advanced digital skills training among both teachers and students. They also confirmed the importance of sector-specific competences, particularly in ICT and tourism, and identified barriers such as limited access to technology, insufficient infrastructure and lack of professional development opportunities.
At the same time, stakeholders showed strong interest in the use of virtual and augmented reality as transformative tools for teaching and learning. The results of the needs assessment will directly inform the development of targeted training programmes and digital curricula, supporting a more inclusive and innovative VET ecosystem in Albania.
